August 2026 Dear Guest, Fly the Red Ensign for Merchant Navy Day – 3 September 2026 at 10:15am Mansion House, Richmond Road, Cardiff. Cardiff Council is pleased to invite you to a Flag Raising Ceremony at the Mansion House, to show support for the merchant seafarers on whom the UK depends. The UK’s prosperity has been dependent on the Merchant Navy since the beginning of international trade. During the two World Wars, without merchant ships and brave seafarers, the UK would have been starved of food and denied other essential supplies. Representatives from our Veterans organisations, serving Armed Forces personnel and guests will join The Rt. Hon. The Lord Mayor of Cardiff, Councillor Michael Michael for this event, which begins at 10:15am for a 10.30am flag raising. The event will last about an hour - with light refreshments being served after the flag-raising ceremony.
