Russian Convoy Club

On Sunday the 5th of October 2008 the South Wales Branch of the Russian Convoy Club (RCC) laid up their Standard at the Parish Church of St. Mary the Virgin, Bute Street, Cardiff. The service was conducted by The Reverend Canon Graham Francis, Honorary Chaplain Mission to Seafarers, Cardiff and the congregation included local parishioners, Members of various Service Organisation and the remaining members of the South Wales branch of the RCC who were ably supported by the Standard and members of the Merseyside Branch. Other Standards paraded were MNA (Wales), The WRNS Association and the RN Association.

The South Wales Branch of the RCC was founded in December 1987. At one time there were more than 89 members and the Standard was acquired in 1991. Over the years the number has dwindled as members crossed the bar or became too feeble to attend meetings. So it was decided to disbanded the Club and lay upthe Standard, The Standard carried by Dave Richards, who has been Standard Bearer since 1997, was laid up next to the Russian Convoy Memorial Window in St.Mary’s.
