MERCHANT NAVY DAY, FLAG RAISING CEREMONY, CARDIFF - 4TH SEPTEMBER 2023
·The Annual Flag Raising ceremony was held in the Courtyard of the Mansion House, Cardiff at 1030 on Monday 4th September. Hosted in glorious sunshine by The Rt. Hon The Lord Mayor of Cardiff, Councillor Bablin Malik and organised by Paula and Crystal of the Protocol Office.
The Service was conducted by Rev Canon Stuart Lisk and included readings given by H.M. Lord Lieutenant of South Glamorgan, Mrs Morfudd Meredith, The Lord Mayor of Cardiff, Councillor Bablin Malik, Captain David Kettlety MN and Byron Jones, Vice Chairman, MNA (Wales). The flag was raised by Mr. Tony Meade, Chairman MNA (Wales). Standards paraded included MNA (Wales), MNA Newport Branch and The Lord Mayors Own Scout Troop.
The playing of the Last Post was carried out by Mr. Phillip Morris.
There was a good turnout of Members from MNA (Wales) supported by our shipmates from MNA Newport Branch, The Scout Group and invited dignitaries and Ex Merchant seafarers, and members of local communities.
Light refreshments were provided in the Mansion House following the Service. Our thanks to all those who attended and the Lord Mayor and her staff for their hospitality.
