MERCHANT NAVY DAY, BARRY - 2ND SEPTEMBER 2023

Merchant Navy Day 2023 at Barry was held on Saturday 2nd September instead of the usual 3rd September. For the first time in its 23 years of being held, it received some media coverage in the form of HTV Wales Katie Lewis: a short clip and interviews were aired on Saturday evening news.

The Service was conducted by Rev Chris Seaton, himself an ex Merchant Seaman and Honorary Chaplain of Barry Branch, MNA (Wales). The readings were split among a number of ex Seafarers.

The Mayor of the Vale of Glamorgan, Councillor Mrs. Julie Aviet was present and read the introduction and the Kohima Epitaph.

Standards from MNA (Wales) Barry Branch , Barry RNLI and HM Coastguard, Barry were present. There was a good turnout of Members from MNA (Wales) Barry Branch, and Ex Merchant seafarers, and members of the public.
